Pulmonology Care
The pulmonary and respiratory health services at Bluffton Regional Medical Center specialize in lung care. We focus on detecting, monitoring and treating lung-related issues.
The pulmonary and respiratory team at Bluffton Regional Medical Center consists of doctors, exercise physiologists, respiratory therapists, dietitians and, most importantly, you.
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Care
With chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), fast diagnosis is key. One of the most common lung diseases, COPD is usually caused by tobacco smoke. However, smokers are not the only ones at risk. There are two forms of COPD: chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Symptoms vary, but usually include a significant amount of mucous, coughing and shortness of breath. Bluffton Regional Medical Center evaluates and manages the condition. Our goal is to have patients living and breathing better by the time they leave our care.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The respiratory therapy department at Bluffton Regional Medical Center specializes in the treatment of:
- Acute breathing problems associated with traumatic injury, heart attack or stroke
- Asthma
- Bronchitis
- Emphysema
- COPD
Respiratory therapists are trained in managing life support devices, airway management, mechanical ventilation and other aspects of critical care medicine. Therapists respond to all emergency situations and participate in code and rapid response teams. Respiratory care practitioners are available in our hospital 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Family members and friends are invaluable during the rehabilitation process and are welcome to attend and participate in pulmonary rehabilitation programs as well.
